The first OpenHarmony Urban Technology Forum in Europe was successfully held.
On the afternoon of March 30, 2025 local time, Europe's first OpenHarmony Urban Technology Forum came to a successful conclusion in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The event was hosted by the Technical Steering Committee (TSC) of the OpenHarmony project group and co-organized by Huawei's Dresden Institute, the European Ministry of Standards and Industrial Development, and the Amsterdam Research Institute.
In the report, Chen Haibo, Chairman of OpenHarmony TSC, ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, and Chairman of ACM SIGOPS, emphasized the importance of the intelligent terminal operating system and the factors affecting its development, expounded the development trend, challenges and opportunities of the operating system in the era of intelligent connectivity, introduced the architecture design and key features of OpenHarmony, and shared the latest technology, ecology, and Talent progress and industry practice.
Juan Rico, Project Manager at Oniro at the Eclipse Foundation, said: "For more than a decade, achieving global connectivity has been one of the biggest challenges facing smart devices due to the complexity of the technology stack, the geographically dispersed nature of manufacturers, and evolving regulatory requirements. While solutions are proliferating, they have never been able to establish a true frame of reference or gain global acceptance. In China, OpenHarmony, an open-source operating system, has shown the potential for seamless connectivity. Through the partnership between the Eclipse Foundation and the Open Atom Open Source Foundation, the Oniro open source operating system, built on OpenHarmony, is gradually showing its potential in Europe.
