Huawei's HarmonyOS Next introduces significant upgrades to its text input system, enhancing both functionality and user experience. The new system, launched in mid-2024, supports third-party IME (Input Method Editor) frameworks, allowing developers to customize input methods and users to switch between them more easily. One standout feature is the global switching function, where users can long-press to access and switch input methods and short-press for quick access. This offers more seamless transitions between various input tools.
Additionally, the system supports both visible and invisible keyboards and adapts to different screen sizes, especially on tablets, where the input method panel is limited to 70% of the screen. Huawei has also introduced smart features like clipboard recognition, which uses context from past inputs and Huawei account data to offer one-click fill options, significantly improving speed and convenience for users.
Security is a priority as well, with reminders when activating third-party input methods and prompts for enabling “full experience mode” when necessary. These innovations aim to make text input on HarmonyOS Next more intuitive, secure, and adaptable across devices.
